My mum knew for 30 years that she would one day face dementia. She was realistic, but she also made one thing clear: she wanted to choose when to move, not have that choice made for her after a crisis. Like so many families, we were trying to gauge her decline over the phone. Was she eating properly? Showering less? Sleeping more? We’d already had one overnight medication reaction. And I was on the other side of the world.
That experience was the catalyst for LifePatterns.

Tom founded LifePatterns after experiencing firsthand the challenges of long-distance caregiving and watching his mum transition through dementia. That experience shaped his mission: to build dignity infrastructure; ambient technology that helps people age safely, independently, and with agency.
